In short, working on a variety of work will actually fight that creative block for you. It’s like a gift that keeps you on your toes and keeps your creativity sharp. Accumulate a variety of work by saying yes to those big projects that scare you at first, so that one day, you can confidently state what you’re good at (and what you’re not good at).

So how do you get a variety of work that you are good at?

From experience, put in the time, put in the effort, and put in the emotion to build strong relationships with clients so that the best work keeps coming. For me, I’m building my new business model to focus on strengthening the client relationships I already have. Over the last 3 years, I’ve noticed there’s tremendous value in sticking to deadlines, leading with strong project management, providing accurate estimates, and consistently communicating with clients. The outcome? My best clients to keep coming back over and over and over...

And... There’s no better referral than one from a friend. Because I invest in my current clients, I get new work simply because people talk.

In other words, my advice to all you freelancers (and entreprenuers) is to build the relationship. Intentially invest in the people behind the brand you’re designing for and working alongside.

Use words and processes that build up your client. Let them know you are with them. Deliver the best design with the best customer service.

Basically, fight the creative block first by being a good human and making raving fans out of clients.
